LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — If you’re looking for a weekend plan that mixes good vibes, good food and a few surprises, the sixth annual Arkansas Rasta Fest is back, and organizers say it’s bigger than ever, with the return of the Dread-A-Thon and even a pro wrestling match.
Ebony Kelsey, founder of Rasta Fest, said this year’s festival includes a new kids dash, plus a wrestling match scheduled for 11:30. They also emphasized the event is free for the community.
The Dread-A-Thon is also returning. Organizers described it as an event started about eight years ago, bringing together a team of stylists to give back by collecting gently used hair tools for the community and homeless shelters. The goal, they said, is to help people feel good and look good.
Mental health and wellness are also a major focus of the festival. Tierra Dukes, founder of the Real Dread-A-Thon, said the Rasta Run was created by Ebony, as an advocate for mental illness and wellness and in response to rising suicide rates. Along with running, Tierra said the event will include yoga, breath work and stretching, with holistic healers on site.
Ebony said the festival is meant to bring people together for unity and to put mental health and wellness “right on the front line,” especially in a community where those topics aren’t always discussed openly.
Beyond the run and wellness events, organizers said Arkansas Rasta Fest will feature food, activities for families, and an international fashion show. The fashion show is presented by a young woman from Senegal, Africa, and her boutique, Yaba Yaba, as part of the Yaba Yaba International Fashion Show.
For more information, Ebony said to search online: “Simply just go to Google and type in Arkansas Rasta, and you’re going to see it.”
They also said volunteers are still needed, including help with the 5K and 10K, plus setup starting Friday and early Saturday morning. Organizers said people can sign up by scanning the QR code on the flyer or website, or by searching “Arkansas Rasta” online. Organizers added it’s not too late to sign up for the 5K or 10K.
