A brand-new restaurant serving elevated French-influenced Californian fare inside a refurbished Art Deco post office is now open in downtown Burlingame.

The Old Post Office, which opened Oct. 1, is helmed by executive chef Jonathan Granada and draws inspiration from 1930s and 1940s great American hotels and restaurants, according to a press statement. Granada has experience at The French Laundry in Yountville and Otium in Los Angeles, and blends global culinary influences, American cuisine and classical French techniques in his menus. His chef de cuisine overseeing the kitchen’s daily operations is Niño Maraon.

For instance, at The Old Post Office, you’ll find a Peking duck dry-aged for 10 days, carved tableside and cooked in a custom-built rotisserie oven; it must be ordered in advance. There are also polenta tortellini with matsutake mushrooms and grilled Maine lobster tail, as well as desserts like the Tipsy Cake, blending a brioche base with brandy cream and roasted vanilla bean gelato.

The menu includes prix-fixe lunch ($55 per person), dinner ($120 per person) and weekend brunch ($70 per person) options. A more casual à la carte menu is also available.

The Old Post Office is the latest restaurant by Bacchus Management Group, which also runs The Village Pub, Selby’s, Augustine and Spruce, among other restaurants.

The building, which had been vacant since 2014, was first built in 1939 and opened as a post office in 1941. The space has been restored and preserves features like terrazzo floors, marble walls, brass teller windows and post office boxes, plus 25-foot-tall ceilings. The former postmaster’s office is now the Postmaster’s Bar, where a la carte dining and cocktails are available. There is also a reservations-required whiskey bar featuring seating for up to five people.

Details: Open 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. weekdays and 5-10 p.m. and 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 5-10 p.m. weekends at 222 Park Road, Burlingame; oldpostofficeburlingame.com.
