A “creepy” themed coffee shop is taking shape in West Charlotte, just in time for spooky season.

The Cauldron will brew horror-inspired coffee, lattes and other sips when it opens at 1814 Rozelles Ferry Road later this year, owner Patsy Auten told CharlotteFive. She hopes to welcome her first customers by year’s end.

But this isn’t your ordinary neighborhood café.

In a recent Facebook post, the West Charlotte native described the unique concept as “if Rory Gilmore and Draculaura opened a coffee shop together.” Expect macabre decor with pops of hot pink and plenty of glitter.

“The Cauldron is a space to come in, get a fun and delicious cup of coffee, take a seat and enjoy the year-round spooky vibe,” Auten said in an email. “It’s a place welcoming to all walks of life, backgrounds and stories.”

Beyond classic drip coffee and specialty lattes, The Cauldron will serve cold brews, tea and lemonade featuring Auten’s homemade syrups. Sparkling sodas and smoothies will be available, too.

The coffee shop is part of a larger mission to uplift and pour into the community that shaped her.

It starts with the coffee beans — ethically-sourced and roasted in Western North Carolina to support the region post-Helene. The Cauldron will also sell art and trinkets from Charlotte-area vendors that customers can shop while they enjoy their drinks.

“My community and the people around me are very important to me as a West Charlotte native,” Auten said. “I went to Northwest School of the Arts, right down the street from Rozzelles Ferry Road from 6th grade to senior year of high school, and the people in that area shaped me in the most formative years of my life.”

“Getting the opportunity to return the favor is a position that I do not take lightly.”

When it finally swings open its doors, The Cauldron will be third space aimed at fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome. The specialty coffee is a plus.

“The goal is simple, really. Get drawn in because of the atmosphere, the tone and vibe we’re setting,” Auten said. “Then … come back because we made you feel seen, heard and safe.”
