NORWALK — Months after closing its location in Darien, the SoNo Baking Co. has announced it will shutter its signature South Norwalk location next month.
The business’ last day will be Nov. 1.
“It is hard to put into words what these past two decades have meant to us. What began as a bakery café grew into something far more meaningful — a place where friendships were formed, milestones were celebrated and countless memories were made,” owner John Barricelli wrote in a statement on Instagram. “To our loyal customers, many of whom have become dear friends, thank you for your unwavering support, kindness, and encouragement. You have been the heart of our business and the reason we have been able to do what we love for so many years.
“Although closing this chapter is bittersweet, we do so with immense gratitude and pride in what we have built together. The memories, friendships, and connections we have made will stay with us long after our doors close,” the statement continues.
Opening on Water Street in 2005, the SoNo Baking Co.’s artisanal breads, pastries, tarts and custom cakes grew a legion of fans throughout southern Fairfield County. The bakery expanded to locations in Westport and Darien, both of which since have closed.
“We lured John away from the restaurant world and he helped me to create one of the best television prep kitchens,” Stewart wrote in the cookbook’s foreword. “He managed, he cooked and he baked.”
He was also contributor to many of Stewart’s productions, including serving as host of “Everyday Food” on PBS and appearing on “The Martha Stewart Show.”
