LITTLE ROCK — Scouts across the Natural State Council, Scouting America, will come together in November to help fight hunger in their communities through Scouting for Food, a council-wide service project conducted in partnership with Harps Food Stores.

Scouting for Food will take place over two Saturdays, with Scouts distributing collection bags in their neighborhoods on November 7 and returning on November 14 to collect donated food and deliver it to local food banks and food pantries.

As part of this year’s effort, Harps Food Stores will also welcome Scouts at its stores across the Natural State on November 14 from 8 a.m. to noon. Scouts will collect food donations from customers at participating Harps locations before delivering the donations to local organizations that help provide food to families in need.

Harps Food Stores has 73 locations across the Natural State Council’s 67-county service area, providing communities throughout Arkansas with an additional opportunity to participate in the food drive.

“Scouting for Food is a great example of what happens when Scouts, families, businesses, and communities come together to serve others,” said Christian Swaim, director of Field Services for the Natural State Council. “Our Scouts are learning that a simple act of service can make a meaningful difference for families in their own communities. We are grateful to Harps Food Stores for partnering with us and helping make this year’s Scouting for Food effort possible.”

Scouting for Food is Scouting America’s leading service program and is part of Good Turn for America, a national initiative focused on encouraging Scouts to make a positive difference through service to their communities.

The Natural State Council encourages families and community members to participate by filling a Scouting for Food bag or donating food at a participating Harps location on Nov. 14.
