Some big chain restaurants are continuing to struggle in this economy including Golden Corral which has closed more restaurants than expected recently and Missouri is included in that list.
Nation’s Restaurant’s News has just shared the word that Golden Corral has closed more restaurants than was expected this year including some very recent shutdowns. They said that based on a report from the Kansas City Star, the Golden Corral located at 19120 E Valley View Parkway in Independence, Missouri has closed its doors forever as of Sunday, October 4, 2026.

I tried to verify this through Golden Corral directly, but their official site shows that Kansas City restaurant as “temporarily closed”. However, I trust that the Kansas City Star report is accurate. A statement from Golden Corral to Nation’s Restaurant News confirmed that the number of closures is higher than normal, but the reasons for each closure are different depending on different factors. According to the Golden Corral locations site, there are a total of 3 restaurants in the Kansas City area, but that does include the Independence operation that is shown as temporarily closed for the moment.
As of this writing, the Independence Golden Corral is the only very recent closing in Missouri. If that changes, I’ll update this article to reflect that.
