Firefighters put out a fire in the roof of a restaurant in South Minneapolis early Saturday morning.
The Minneapolis Fire Department said crews responded around 6:45 a.m. to Jakeeno’s Pizza and Pasta located on Chicago Avenue for reports of smoke. Fire officials said the business was closed when they arrived and forced entry to find the source of the smoke.
Crews used ladders to reach the roof and found a fire burning beneath the roof membrane. Authorities said firefighters opened several sections of the roof to put out the fire in an hour.
Authorities said no fire was found inside the building, though smoke got into the restaurant. Fire crews searched the building and confirmed no one was inside.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
In a Facebook post from Jakeeno’s Pizza and Pasta, the restaurant thanked firefighters for their work and confirmed that neither a customer nor a worker was injured in the incident.
In the meantime, the restaurant says it will remain closed until further notice as the damage is assessed and cleanup takes place.
