For Dan Bennett, owning a New York-style deli was always a dream. Growing up in New York, he developed an appreciation for the bagels, sandwiches and neighborhood delis that are part of the city’s food culture.

After moving to Colleyville about 20 years ago, Bennett noticed that delis weren’t as common in the area. So when NYC Bagel & Deli, located just minutes from his Colleyville home, became available for purchase, he and his father, George Bennett, decided to take the opportunity.

Today, the father-son duo co-own the shop, bringing a taste of New York to the Colleyville community through freshly baked bagels, house-made cream cheeses, classic deli sandwiches and more.

What makes NYC Bagel & Deli’s bagels authentic?

At NYC Bagel & Deli, creating an authentic New York-style bagel begins long before it reaches the oven. The dough undergoes a 24-hour fermentation process before the bagels are boiled in batches and baked fresh daily.

According to Bennett, boiling the dough is an essential step that distinguishes traditional New York-style bagels from those that are simply baked.

The shop offers approximately 15-18 bagel flavors daily, ranging from traditional favorites to specialty varieties.

Options include:

Classic bagels: Plain, everything, sesame seed and poppy seed

Specialty bagels: French toast, garlic, onion and rosemary garlic parmesan

Weekend favorites: Colorful rainbow bagels, which are particularly popular with children

Seasonal offerings: Pumpkin-shaped bagels and pumpkin cream cheese, available through the end of November, 2026

Customers can also choose from approximately a dozen house-made cream cheese spreads, including scallion, garlic and herb, strawberry, blueberry, honey almond and maple bacon. All cream cheeses are prepared fresh in-house without preservatives and are available on bagels or in containers ranging from 2 ounces to 1 pound.

For customers looking to bring breakfast home for the family or share with coworkers, the shop also offers half-dozens, dozens and a bagel box special featuring a baker’s dozen bagels and two 8-ounce cream cheeses of any flavor.

What’s on the menu beyond bagels and cream cheese?

While bagels are at the heart of the business, NYC Bagel & Deli offers a full breakfast and lunch menu, with options ranging from classic New York deli sandwiches to Texas-inspired favorites.

The bacon, egg and cheese bagel is the shop’s most popular menu item. Other breakfast favorites include the Spice Lovers sandwich, featuring bacon, pepper jack cheese, jalapeno cream cheese and pickled jalapenos, and the Powerhouse, made with egg whites, turkey sausage and cheese.

For lunch, customers can choose from traditional deli favorites, including Reuben and pastrami sandwiches, alongside specialty creations. One popular option is the chicken pesto mayo sandwich, featuring seasoned grilled chicken, roasted red peppers, mozzarella and a house-made pesto mayonnaise blend.

The shop also offers a brisket sandwich and approximately six burrito varieties, including a Philly cheesesteak burrito, veggie burrito and traditional breakfast burritos.

The shop is open from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. seven days a week, and Bennett emphasized that customers don’t have to wait until lunchtime to order a sandwich, or arrive early to enjoy breakfast.

“We serve the full menu all day, so people are able to get a turkey sandwich at nine in the morning or a bacon, egg and cheese bagel at one in the afternoon,” Bennett said.

How does NYC Bagel & Deli create a welcoming experience?

In addition to great food, recreating the New York deli experience involves making customers feel welcome from the moment they walk through the door.

To accomplish this, Bennett is at the shop every day, greeting customers and checking on their meals. His staff follows that same approach, welcoming guests as they arrive, checking in with those dining inside and thanking customers as they leave.

“We get a lot of great reviews on how friendly we all are here,” Bennett said.

Ultimately, Bennett hopes customers leave with the same appreciation for New York-style bagels and delis that inspired him to pursue the business.

“Coming from New York, I know the deli and bagel shop experience, so I try to really recreate that in my shop,” Bennett said.
