The Texas Roadhouse menu is huge and varied, with options for several different price points. If you’re looking for the Texas Roadhouse experience without the hand-cut steak prices, there are plenty of choices, from chicken to seafood to burgers, sandwiches, salads, and more. And according to our list of the eight best Texas Roadhouse entrees under $20, the classic All-American Cheeseburger is one of the best to order.
Texas Roadhouse knows beef, whether it’s a giant steak or a burger patty; the restaurant is on our list of six chain steakhouses with the best burgers, according to customers. There are more complicated burgers on the menu, but the All-American keeps it simple. It comes with American cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce, a pickle spear, and a side of steak fries, which you can substitute for any of the classic Texas Roadhouse sides, including options like a baked potato or side salad, all for $13.99. (The only side that costs more is the mac and cheese, which will run you an extra 99 cents.) It doesn’t get much more classic — or affordable — than that.
Tasting Table’s researcher noted that these days, even some fast food burgers cost around the same price, and customers say the burger is high quality, tasty, and large. It’s really a great deal if you’re hoping not to break the bank next time you go to Texas Roadhouse.
How does the Texas Roadhouse All-American Cheeseburger compare to other restaurants’ burgers?
Andrew Runner Fischer/Tasting Table
“Say what you want about ordering a burger at a steakhouse, but they make one fine burger,” one Texas Roadhouse customer said on Facebook of the All-American Cheeseburger. Another wrote reviewer on 95.3 The Bear, “The patty was crazy juicy and seasoned perfectly.” But not everyone is convinced that Texas Roadhouse’s burgers live up to the hype. One Tasting Table reviewer tried cheeseburgers at seven sit-down chain restaurants, and Texas Roadhouse came in at number five. “The cheeseburger wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t especially memorable,” they wrote. Other steakhouse chains like Outback and LongHorn ranked higher.
Some customers don’t seem to think the All-American Cheeseburger is worth it, even though it’s very affordable. “I ordered one once and it was the driest burger I ever tried eating. Will never order it again,” one customer wrote on Facebook. Another said, “We got a couple once and they were awful. Too much salt or something.”
As with any dish from a chain restaurant, the quality of the burger likely depends on the location and the specific chef who prepares it, and those who try it will obviously have varied opinions. But at $13.99, it’s less of a financial gamble than ordering a large steak, and plenty of people are quite pleased with the quality of Texas Roadhouse’s burgers.
