Longtime Laredo College supporter Falcon Bank donated to the college’s Palomino Pantry earlier this week as part of a community-wide collection effort across its South Texas locations.
The donation was collected through Falcon Bank’s partnership with the Texas Bankers Association as part of its second annual Texas Banks Community Day of Service. On Oct. 20, the bank distributed donations collected from branches across Laredo, Zapata, Eagle Pass, Del Rio, Stone Oak, Buda, Bandera, Brownsville and McAllen.
Items collected included nonperishable food, pet food, blankets and cases of water. Donations were distributed among organizations in the communities Falcon Bank serves, including the Palomino Pantry, United Way of Laredo and Texas A&M International University’s Dusty Pantry, helping provide students and families with essential resources.
Falcon Bank Assistant Vice President Alyssa Osorio, a former Palomino, said she was proud to see the bank support Laredo College and its students.
“As a former Palomino, I’m especially proud to see Falcon Bank giving back to a college that means so much to our community and the students it serves,” Osorio said. “Through our partnership with Laredo College, we’re able to support students who are the future of Laredo and contribute to the continued growth of our community.”
Laredo College Director of Student Life Pedro Rivera said the donation will help address needs among students using the pantry.
“We are very thankful to Falcon Bank for thinking of our students and supporting the Palomino Pantry,” Rivera said. “Every donation helps us meet real needs on our campus. It’s encouraging to see local organizations come together to support student success and make sure our students have the resources they need to thrive.”
The Palomino Pantry was established in 2013 to help address food insecurity and other basic needs among Laredo College students. The pantry provides groceries, snacks, clothing, hygiene products, school supplies and other essential items.
The pantry has since expanded under the South Texas Food Bank’s Nourish U initiative, which creates a network of food pantries on college campuses to help students access nutritious food while focusing on their education.
