ROANOKE, Va. (WJHL) — Local shoppers and associates of Walmart and Sam’s Club helped raise more than $70,000 for Feeding Southwest Virginia.
The 13th annual Walmart and Sam’s Club “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign, which took place from April 6 to May 3, raised $71,076.50 to help those in Southwest Virginia who are experiencing food insecurity.
Officials at Feeding Southwest Virginia said that ending hunger takes people who are willing to look out for one another and help out in their community.

“Every day, we see neighbors who are working hard but still need support putting food on the table,” Feeding Southwest Virginia CEO Pamela Irvine said. “Thanks to the generosity of our community and the ongoing partnership of Walmart and Sam’s Club, we can help provide food and hope throughout our community.”
Since 2014, the campaign has helped secure more than 2.4 billion meals for people facing hunger. For more than 20 years, the combined effort of Walmart, Sam’s Club and Feeding America has been a transformational hunger relief partnership, according to officials.
Feeding Southwest Virginia encourages community members to take action by volunteering, donating or supporting local hunger-relief efforts during the holiday season.
