RIDGELAND—A new restaurant is slated for the old Sombra Mexican Kitchen that closed its doors in the Township this past weekend.

Plans for a new restaurant concept are nearly complete, with construction expected to begin shortly, Township officials said.

“Additional information about what’s next for the space will be shared by The Township at Colony Park in the coming weeks,” Township officials said.

After more than 15 years at The Township at Colony Park, Sombra Mexican Kitchen concluded its final day of service on Sunday, July 26.

“We’ve cleared our last table,” Sombra officials said in a statement. “Thank you to our guests and the Ridgeland community for your support, your memories, and for making Sombra part of your lives for so many years. To every member of the Sombra team, past and present, thank you for the hard work and heart you gave to this restaurant. Sombra Mexican Kitchen has permanently closed, and we are incredibly grateful for every moment we shared with you.”

Sombra Mexican Kitchen was located in the shopping center at 140 Township Avenue, Suite 100.

Since opening in 2011, Sombra has been part of The Township’s collection of restaurants, shops, and experiences, welcoming guests from across the Jackson metro area and beyond, Kelly Aycock, Director of Marketing for The Township at Colony Park, said.

“We are incredibly appreciative of the guests, team members, and community who have supported Sombra over the years,” Aycock said. “Sombra has been part of countless meals, celebrations, and memories, and we’re grateful for the role it has played at The Township.”
