Hannaford Supermarkets plans to acquire Graves’ Shop ‘n Save at 797 Main St. in Presque Isle, bringing into the fold a longtime independent grocery store.
The store is expected to begin operating as Hannaford in late fall. The acquisition will bring Hannaford’s total number of stores to 189, including 69 in Maine.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Graves’ Shop ‘n Save was founded by the Graves family in 1959 and sold to Brandon Hopkins in 2022. Over the years, the store has maintained a longstanding supply and support relationship with Hannaford.
“I’m pleased to have found a partner in Hannaford that shares that commitment,” said Hopkins. “We’re confident that Hannaford will continue to build on the store’s legacy for years to come.”
Bob Graves, a former owner, along with his brother Greg, has remained a presence at the store since the early 1970s. He said the transition marks a new chapter for the business.
“It has been an honor to serve this community and be a part of so many customers’ lives over the years,” Graves said. “We’re confident that Hannaford will provide the same level of personalized service and outstanding products that make the Graves shopping experience so special.”
Once the transition is complete, customers will have access to Hannaford private-label brands including Taste of Inspirations, Hannaford and Nature’s Promise, along with the chain’s My Hannaford Rewards program.
Hannaford was founded in Portland in 1883 and is headquartered in Scarborough. With up to 9,500 employees in the first quarter of 2025, the chain was ranked Maine’s second-largest private employer in the 2026 Mainebiz Book of Lists.
