Today on Texas Eats NOW: Texas Eats 2026 (KSAT 2026)TEXAS EATS HALLOWEEN | THE GRIM BAKERS

4522 Fredericksburg Rd, San Antonio, TX 78201

The Grim Bakers is a year-round horror-themed bakery at Crossroads Mall and one of the only concepts of its kind in Texas. Co-owner Manny Martinez said the shop is the first year-round horror-themed bakery in the country, which he’s glad to have pioneered. You may also recognize Manny from his win on Food Network’s Halloween Baking Championship in 2024. The theme never takes a break: no matter which holiday is on the calendar, the menu gets adjusted with a spooky twist.

The anatomical heart cake comes with a choice of vanilla or chocolate cake with mousse, enrobed in a chocolate shell. House made lemonades, called vein drains, are served in biohazard blood bags, and the brain-dead sundae hides a surprise under a fully edible sculpted shell made of white chocolate, right down to shortbread cookie fingers. Three specialty drinks round things out: the Campfire Massacre, a Black Forest-inspired Fang Banger and the Witching Hour Ube.

TEXAS EATS 2026 (KSAT 2026)TEXAS EATS HALLOWEEN | THE MENGER HOTEL

204 Alamo Plaza, San Antonio, TX 78205

Located minutes from the River Walk and steps from the Alamo, the historic Menger Hotel reigns as the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi. The hotel is known for being haunted and that includes the second floor King Ranch suite, where Captain Richard King died, and where one guest reported waking around midnight feeling watched.

The Colonial Room is the restaurant inside the Menger Hotel, serving lunch and weekend brunch. The kitchen’s signature mango ice cream traces back to the mango trees that once grew on the property, when the chefs of the day began turning the fruit into desserts. The Reuben sandwich is another favorite as it’s built on rye bread with fresh corned beef, Swiss cheese and housemade thousand island dressing, served with fries and a pickle spear.

Texas Eats 2026 (KSAT 2026)TEXAS EATS HALLOWEEN | TRICK OR TREAT

With Halloween right around the corner, the price of candy has steadily risen and is now more expensive than ever. This year, the Texas Eats team wanted to see which bag of candy gives consumers the best bang for their buck, so David Elder went out and bought $230 of candy bags to try them out.

The team found that any bags with chocolate candy were much higher in price than any bags without chocolate, so you’re going to get less bang for your buck that way. The steal of the season is the Haribo bag as it’s dense with gummy bears and only costs $14.99.
