Five Lafayette restaurants were cited for one or more critical violations by the Louisiana Department of Health in inspections from late July to early August.
All of the restaurants were dealing with flies, roaches or rodents, offenses many Louisiana eateries are grappling with during the warm summer months.
The health department’s retail food health inspections dashboard includes a history of each establishment’s inspection reports, allowing residents and visitors to make informed decisions as consumers, according to their website. Inspections are a “snapshot” in time and do not always reflect the day-to-day operations and overall condition of an establishment.
According to the website, violations fall into two main categories, critical and noncritical. Critical violations, if left uncorrected, are more likely to directly contribute to food contamination or illness. Noncritical violations are not directly related to the cause of food-borne illness, but if left uncorrected, could become critical.
Some of critical violations listed below were corrected on site, and others will be checked again at a later date.
Masala, 2208 Kaliste Saloom Road, was inspected July 28 and cited for rodents present inside the restaurant. The health department did not specify further.
