Is there anything more classic than dinner and a show? Fairmont Waterfront is giving the pairing a cinematic spin with Waterfront Cinema Presents, a new film-and-food series launching November 13 with Mamma Mia!.
The hotel’s first screening will bring a Greek taverna-inspired setup with themed décor and a four-course menu from executive chef Harris Sakalis. Drawing on his Greek heritage, Sakalis will serve shared mezze, including pita and house-made spreads, followed by grilled octopus, crispy zucchini and osso buco. Pistachio baklava is on the menu for dessert, with ouzo over ice to complete the Greek-inspired meal.
The film will screen as guests dine at tables. A dedicated bar and classic cinema snacks, including fresh popcorn, will also be available throughout the evening.
“Each event has been thoughtfully designed to extend beyond a traditional movie night, immersing guests in the flavours, atmosphere and spirit of each film. We look forward to welcoming guests to our inaugural screening of Mamma Mia!, where downtown Vancouver will transform into a vibrant Greek taverna for one unforgettable evening,” shares director of food and beverage Mike Pagnacco in a release.
The series is set to continue through 2027 with more familiar films matched to themed menus and décor: Pretty Woman for Valentine’s Day, Pride & Prejudice in the spring, Beetlejuice for Halloween and Home Alone during the festive season.
