SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – Bubba’s 33 held a ribbon cutting Friday in Sherman. It is the first of several new restaurants coming to the city.

“I feel like we’ve had the same options for so long, so it’s exciting to get something new in, and not just new to the area, but new to a lot of people who haven’t had their food before,” said Emilie Harris, Sherman Chamber president.

Public opening Monday

The restaurant opens to the public at 11 a.m. Monday. Managing partner Scott Grace said it is not a typical sports bar.

“33 TVs, loud music, having fun, always sports based, a little bit of rock ‘n’ roll and a little bit of sports all wrapped into one,” Grace said.

More restaurants planned

Longhorn Steakhouse is next, opening next door to Bubba’s 33 on Dec. 14.

In the Town Center area, First Watch is planned for the former Taco Cabana. Chuy’s is planned between IHOP and Texas Roadhouse.

Salsa Tex-Mex announced

Salsa Tex-Mex was announced Friday as the first sit-down restaurant at Sherman Crossroads, next to the H-E-B property. The chain has about five locations in the Metroplex. Crews are expected to break ground next year.

“The fact that it is a sit-down restaurant really demonstrates that development is kind of maturing and coming into its own. So we expect that this will be the first of many that would open up in that development,” said Nate Strauch, community and support services manager for the city of Sherman.

Homebuilding cited

City leaders credit homebuilding for the boom. The south side alone has added thousands of jobs at Texas Instruments and Global Wafers.

“Now that a lot of those houses have been bought up and been filled with new families, you’re starting to see a lot of these restaurants respond and say, ‘OK, a lot of people are moving to Sherman. We need to give them more options to eat,’” Strauch said.
