A grocery store staple that’s popular with parents and kids has been recalled due to possible spoilage.
The Colorado-based manufacturer has pulled more than 53,000 cases from store shelves, according to a recall notice shared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recalled products were distributed throughout the United States, including in Washington state.

Horizon Organic Dairy recalled 34,524 cases of the companty’s 12-count organic, lowfat chocolate milk on Aug. 7, 2026 due to possible premature spoilage.

On Aug. 7, Horizon Organic Milk voluntarily recalled packages of chocolate milk because it has “the potential to be spoiled,” the FDA said.
The Broomfield, Colorado, company said it received complaints from consumers that product packaging “appeared bloated.”
The contents of 53,760 cases of shelf-stable 1% milk “may be subject to premature spoilage and may have an unpleasant taste, odor and/or texture,” Horizon Organic Milk said.
The recall impacts two sizes of boxes with 8-ounce pouches.

How can I tell if I bought recalled milk?
According to Horizon Organic Milk, the recalled products will have “best by” dates ranging from Jan. 8, 2027, to Feb. 3, 2027.
“A root cause investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the issues giving rise to the consumer complaints identified above, and corrective and preventive actions will be implemented to prevent recurrence,” Horizon Organic Milk said.
What should I do if I have recalled drinks?
If you spot the recalled shelf-stable milk in your pantry or fridge, Horizon Organic Milk said you should discard immediately.
However, you should hold on to your proof of purchase — including a copy of your receipt and any packaging information — and contact the company to find out if you’re eligible for the refund.
