LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A toddler was seriously injured after a vehicle crashed through the wall of a central Lincoln restaurant on Saturday.
Lincoln Police were called to Cuba Restaurant and Bar near North 27th and W streets at 11:52 a.m.
Preliminary investigation shows a 19-year-old driver of a white van was northbound on North 27th Street from Vine Street. The driver suffered a medical emergency and became unconscious veering the car off the roadway into the building.
Police said several customers and staff were inside the restaurant when the building was hit. Several minor injuries were reported by people inside the vehicle and customers inside the restaurant.
Police initially reported only minor injuries, however later noted that a 19-month-old who was inside the restaurant suffered serious injuries. The toddler was treated at a local hospital before being transferred to Omaha for further treatment.
Building and Safety determined the business suffered damage that makes the building unsafe to occupy. The business will be closed until repairs can be made.
