The Michelin Guide tantalized Colorado’s culinary community earlier this year when it announced it would consider restaurants from across the state for its annual list of the best places to dine.
Turns out its recommendations were elusive as ever, as were new stars, the pinnacle of Michelin’s recommendations. A sole restaurant received a star in this year’s iteration of the Michelin Guide, released Monday morning.
The restaurant, Milpero, is Johnny Curiel’s third Denver restaurant to earn a star and his most exclusive, a lengthy, multi-course tasting menu where corn is in every dish. Only eight people are served at a time at $225 a person.
The rest of the guide features a handful of recommendations from cities not eligible in past iterations, including two restaurants in Colorado Springs, two in Breckenridge, two in Aurora and one in Telluride.
Three won Bib Gourmand classification for price and value: Denver’s Rougarou, specializing in soul food; Pig and Tiger, a Taiwanese restaurant, also in Denver; and Annette, a New American restaurant inside Aurora’s Stanley Marketplace.
“Today marks a massive milestone in our careers,” Pig and Tiger chef and co-owner Darren Chang said in a statement, adding that inclusion in the guide “is so meaningful to us and the future of our restaurant.”

Previous iterations of the Colorado Michelin Guide, which launched in 2023, were limited to a small group of cities that funded and promoted the guide.
All other starred restaurants retained their rating in this year’s edition, including The Wolf’s Tailor in Denver with two stars.
State and local agencies touted the latest guide. “We are proud to see Colorado’s culinary scene continue to gain prestigious recognition,” Timothy Wolf, the director of the Colorado Tourism Office, said in a statement.
