16 amateur chefs from across the country will face off for the $100,000 prize.
Three Vancouver home cooks are looking to be more than a flash in the pan as they compete in the country’s biggest reality TV cooking show.
Harley Maranan, Jason Yamaski and Hekate have been announced as part of the cast of Season 9 of MasterChef Canada, which premiers Sept. 22 on CTV.
Mary Berg, Hugh Acheson and Craig Wong return as judges, with a special appearance from celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, according to a press release.
The 11-episode season features 16 Canadian amateur cooks competing for a $100,000 prize and the title of MasterChef.
Here are the Vancouverite chefs battling for the top spot this season.
Originally raised in the Philippines, Maranan grew up as a fan of the MasterChef franchise.
“While he feels most comfortable with Filipino ingredients and dishes, Harley also loves experimenting with French and Italian cuisine,’ reads the release.
His “stand out dish” is Seared Scallops with Pea & Mint Puree, Pancetta & Walnut Crumble, & Parmesan Chive Crisps.
Yamaski is a sommelier by trade.
“His palate has been shaped through years of formal wine tasting training, a love of restaurants, and both humble and fine meals in some of the world’s most famous wine regions,” reads the release.
His stand out dish is Lamb Loin with Peas, Roasted Leeks & Potato Pavé in a Red Wine Jus.
Hekate is an Indigenous, trans content creator.
“Leaving home at 15 after a difficult childhood, Hekate surrounds herself with her chosen family, is happily partnered, has founded OYT Cosmetics, and streams full-time,” reads the release.
Her stand out dish is Pan Seared Chicken Breast with Greek Lemon Potatoes, Herby Whipped Feta, Deconstructed Greek Salad & Kalamata Olive Hummus.
The show will air on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. (ET/PT) on CTV and will stream the following day on Crave.
