A St. Louis man with a prior felony conviction pleaded guilty Wednesday to a federal firearm charge after admitting he exchanged gunfire with a customer outside the fast-food restaurant where he worked.
Tony Robinson, 28, of St. Louis, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in St. Louis to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Robinson admitted that he argued with a customer at the restaurant on Dec. 17, 2025. After a manager intervened, Robinson walked away from the drive-thru window and placed his headset on the counter.
The customer was outside the restaurant and looking through a dining room window when Robinson walked outside with one hand in his pocket. The customer backed away and began firing. Robinson then pulled a firearm from his pocket and returned fire.
Robinson and the customer continued exchanging gunfire as they fled. The customer ran from the area, while Robinson returned to the restaurant and fired through a dining room window.
Robinson then fled to a nearby church, where he concealed his firearm in a stairwell. When officers with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department located him, Robinson initially told officers that he had thrown the gun into a sewer.
Officers subsequently recovered Robinson’s firearm, a .45-caliber Glock pistol. Police also interviewed the customer, who said he had acted in self-defense.
Investigators recovered four .45-caliber cartridge casings and nine 9mm cartridge casings. Bullet holes were found in the windshield and hood of the customer’s vehicle and in a window of the restaurant.
Robinson is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 19. He faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Szczucinski is prosecuting the case.
