I hate to be the bearer of some unfortunate food news, especially when the sunny summer months in Maine and a boom in new restaurants opening in 2026 are such a current uplifting positive.

Sadly, July and August brought about some closures across the state.

Hopefully you were lucky enough to get one last meal in before these spots had to say goodbye.

What Maine Restaurants Closed in July and August 2026?

Some longstanding Maine seafood restaurants like McGlaughlin’s Lobster Shack in Lincolnville and Bayley’s Seafood Restaurant in Scarborough dropped the big closure news in August after decades of being open.

McGlaughlin’s got its start nearly 50 years ago, while Bayley’s was about 30 years. Both incredible runs for these spots, so it’s not a surprise to see the outpouring of love, fondness, memories and thanks to the two establishments.

“We always enjoyed and appreciated the delicious and mouthwatering food [from McGlaughlin’s], whether we ate in the restaurant, sitting outside with the gorgeous water view or ordered takeout. Thank you for your dedication and effort in maintaining a friendly and enjoyable dining experience. You’ll definitely be missed.”

“[Bayley’s is] a Pine Point icon. Thank you for leaving your mark on us!”

On the flip side were some closed restaurants with shorter stints but ones that left an impression on their customers as well.

That includes places like Magno Terra Cafe, the little Yarmouth restaurant right by the world’s biggest rotating globe that opened in 2025, or Jodie’s Cafe & Bakery Wiscasset, which opened in 2022 and served up lunch and dinner right by the Sheepscot River.

“[Magno Terra Cafe] will be missed every day. You meant so much to everyone who came to this building. You created a community. Your staff is exceptional. Your food is delicious. There has never been a cafe quite like the one you created. I look forward to your next chapter.”

“I am so sorry to hear this. We truly enjoyed coming [to Jodie’s]. The food was great but the friendliness of the people was what made it one of our favorites.”

Let’s take a look at some of the other restaurants that had to close their doors in July and August.

Maine’s ever-changing restaurant scene has a bittersweet reality. While we’ve seen an exciting number of new restaurants open around the state in 2026, others have had to say goodbye.

They certainly aren’t the first places to end their respective chapters, and they won’t be the last. But for the memories created, those will last for years to come.
