Considering the average price for steak frites in this town hovers around $50, Steak Easy’s $15 version is sure to turn some noggins—ours included. The thing is, the dish at this pop-up at Stumbletown from the folks behind Ginger & Scallion isn’t just dirt cheap, it’s also really good. The steak has a valiant, garlic-thyme-butter-basted sear, the tallow fries are the stuff of ‘90s McDonald’s dreams (minus the resounding crunch), and we wish to have access to the alfredo-like au poivre sauce in takeout coffee cups on a blustery day. If it’s truly exemplary steak you’re after, there are better options around the city. But the price, and the fact that the dish is quite tasty at that price, make Steak Easy an integral part of the meat-and-potatoes conversation.

Duck Frites
This version is pricier at $25, but the team knows how to do duck (as evidenced by their work at Ginger & Scallion down the street). The meat is super tender, especially when buried under a blanket of creamy au poivre sauce. Our only complaint is that the skin is a little flabby.
