A swath of Ontario Chinese restaurants — nine of which are in Toronto — were just named among the best in all of Canada.
Saying that Ontario is home to some great Chinese restaurants is like saying the sky is blue: it’s so undeniable a truth that it almost goes without saying. That said, it still feels pretty to get official recognition for that fact.
That’s precisely what happened on Tuesday, Sept. 8, when the 2026 Chinese Restaurant Awards (CRA) announced their 50 finalists for the annual Elite 30 Canada Awards, an annual distinction that recognizes the top Chinese and Taiwanese cuisine in the country.
No surprise, Ontario’s Chinese restaurants were represented in impressive numbers, occupying a total of 18 slots on the list of 50. The province was beaten out, perhaps even less surprisingly, by BC, which came out on top with 31 honorees on the list.
Still, there’s a lot about the list that Ontario’s culinary scene should be proud of. New additions to the list included Toronto’s Belle Isle and Sunnys Chinese, Richmond Hill’s Northern Dumpling Kitchen and Ottawa’s Bite & Bite Shanghai Fried Bun, alongside unshakeable stalwarts like aKin and Fishman Lobster Clubhouse.
The real test will come on Sept. 23, though, when the Elite 30 are unveiled at a special ceremony in Vancouver. Until then, here are all the Ontario restaurants that made it on the list of Canada’s 50 best Chinese restaurants.
