A new restaurant is offering a taste of Puerto Rico in the Lehigh Valley.
Chinchorro held its grand opening Thursday at 2600 William Penn Highway in Palmer Township.
Owner Yesenia Westerband-Rodriguez said the restaurant will offer platters such as with rice and beans, sausage, pig roast, tostones, mofongo, sancocho, canoas and pastelillos. It also has outdoor seating.
“The goal that we have here is for whoever reaches us to feel like they are in Puerto Rico, so the menu will definitely be full authentic,” Westerband-Rodriguez said. “100% Puerto Rican.”
The restaurant is an expansion of the food truck La Frikitona that Westerband-Rodriguez opened in 2021 with her husband Armando, who is the manager of Chinchorro.
They originally were just looking for a commercial kitchen to prepare more food, but found an opportunity to lease at the property when Don Juan Mex Grill closed there.
“It’s a great opportunity to grow,” Westerband-Rodriguez said. “We have a lot of customers that come and they want that seating area, which we can’t offer them in the food truck, so we saw this as a perfect place to do that.”
“Nothing better than doing what you love,” Armando said.
The restaurant is open11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Westerband-Rodriguez said they plan to continue to operate the two food trucks they have, but that they may scale back on the number of events in which they participate.
