Investors often weigh the hyper-growth of beverage upstarts against the steady expansion of established restaurant chains. Choosing between Celsius (CELH +2.57%) and Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG +5.83%) requires balancing immediate revenue surges with long-term stability.
Celsius focuses on functional energy drinks that appeal to health-conscious consumers, while Chipotle dominates the fast-casual dining space with its fresh-ingredient philosophy. Both companies rely on strong brand loyalty to navigate competitive retail environments. We will examine their financial health and market risks to determine which aligns better with your 2027 investing goals.
The case for Celsius
Celsius sells functional beverages through major retailers, fitness centers, and e-commerce platforms. Its growth strategy relies heavily on a partnership with Pepsi, which serves as its primary U.S. distributor and helps manage brands like Rockstar. Customer concentration like this adds a layer of risk to the business, which is something to keep in mind.
In FY 2025, revenue reached nearly $2.5 billion, representing growth of approximately 85.5% over the previous year. This rapid expansion helped the company achieve net income of roughly $108 million.

It reaches customers through physical stores and digital channels, including platforms owned by Amazon (AMZN +6.12%).

Risk profile comparison
Celsius faces significant revenue concentration with Pepsi, creating a heavy reliance on a single distribution partner for its core business. The company also deals with operational risks from third-party co-packers and intense competition from Monster Beverage (MNST +3.33%). Rapid growth could also lead to brand cannibalization as it integrates acquired businesses or expands its product lines.
Chipotle Mexican Grill is vulnerable to food safety risks that could damage its brand reputation due to its reliance on fresh, unprocessed ingredients. It relies heavily on third-party delivery services and faces pressure from large competitors like McDonald’s (MCD +6.53%). Rising labor costs and potential supply chain disruptions also present ongoing challenges for its business model.
Valuation comparison
Celsius appears more attractively priced based on traditional metrics.

This is an interesting stock battle, as each company could fit into a portfolio to serve different purposes. With Celsius, you’re looking at more of a growth stock. It’s carving out a niche in the energy drink market, which is expected to be a global industry valued at $157.2 billion, according to Fortune Business Insights. Celsius can continue to capture that growing revenue opportunity by having more products on the shelves, as it acquired the energy drink maker Alani Nutrition in 2025.
Chipotle, on the other hand, is a more mature company, but that comes with its own set of benefits. As we saw earlier, Chipotle generates more revenue than Celsius, hauling in $11.9 billion in fiscal 2025 compared to Celsius’s $2.5 billion. It’s also capturing more profits, with Chipotle’s net income over that period totaling $1.5 billion while Celsius reported $108 million in net income.
Between the two, heading into 2027, I would rather own shares of Chipotle. With plenty of uncertainty still swirling around the markets, Chipotle offers more stability as a more established business, but it also still has revenue growth opportunities. The restaurant chain has a long-term goal of operating 7,000 locations in North America, so that can help sales keep climbing. And while Celsius may have more stock price growth potential ahead, that also comes with greater risk. For example, over the last 12 months, shares of Chipotle are up 9.4%, while shares of Celsius are down nearly 48%. While both are underperforming the S&P 500’s 13.6% return over that period, Chipotle’s positive returns indicate greater stability than Celsius, a high-risk, high-reward stock.
