With the exception of a few early years and a college stint below the Mason-Dixon Line, I have lived in Greater Portland. And as much as I love this part of Maine, let’s be honest, it doesn’t hold a candle to Midcoast Maine, arguably the best region in our great state.
It’s a region that combines coastal Maine with beautiful state parks, mountains, college towns, and perfectly charming villages. It’s also full of kind-hearted Mainers and delicious food. It’s like taking everything that’s awesome about Maine and sticking it into one stretch of the state.
What is the Most Historic Town in Midcoast Maine?
Today, we’re going to focus on one of those historic towns that can be found in the Midcoast, one that is best known for building the mighty ships that help protect our country. I’m talking about Bath.
Bath is a blue-collar town that prides itself on tradition and ingenuity. The town will always be best known for the iconic Bath Iron Works, the massive defense contractor that’s been building ships since 1884.
However, Bath is much more than that. It’s a lovely community with a charming downtown district, popular museums and galleries, and plenty of delicious restaurants to chow down at.
