What’s more iconic and American than a cheeseburger?
Invented a little over 100 years ago in a sandwich shop in Pasadena, California, the beef delicacy has transformed itself into a star. It’s now one of the most popular and consumed meals in the country.
South Carolina has plenty of great places to grab a juicy burger, and you probably can’t go a mile without seeing a burger shop. Many joints claim to have the best burger and strive to have it, but which restaurant actually serves it?
Tasting Table, a food and drink media organization, researched burger shops with outstanding reputations in every state and analyzed their customers’ online reviews to find out where to get the best cheeseburger across the country. The group avoided fast-food chains.
Here’s the restaurant in SC that serves the best cheeseburger, according to the ranking:

Everyone has their own opinion, but after looking through online reviews and seeing this restaurant’s national recognition, Tasting Table experts agreed that the cheeseburger from The Tattooed Moose is the best in SC.
The two-patty burger has almost everything you could want on it, and its side of duck fat fries nearly steals the show.
“Reviewers cite the fresh locally-made kaiser roll, the excellent harmony of the ingredients, and the marriage between the garlic aioli and special sauce,” said a Tasting Table writer.
The Tattooed Moose has been nationally recognized by Eater magazine for its Mike’s Famous Duck Club sandwich. They were also featured on the Food Network’s television show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” with Guy Fieri.
The restaurant only has two locations, one in North Charleston and the other in Johns Island.

Tasting Table didn’t just find random burger joints for this ranking.
To find the best cheeseburger in each state, they started by searching for the best burger restaurants, then determined whether a particular one served a cheeseburger that was especially popular in social media reviews or national or local publications.
“We focused on well-known restaurants with great reputations that have been around for many years, as the time itself is often an indicator of quality in a restaurant,” said a Tasting Table writer. “But we were also open to newcomers with lots of social media or print media attention.”
The group took into account different cheeseburger preferences in every state and chose shops that aligned with the people’s tastes.
