A popular grocery store with multiple locations in states across the country appears to be making its debut in Illinois, with plans to open inside a former Dominick’s store in the north suburbs.
According to the village of Buffalo Grove, Sprouts Farmers Market is expected to open inside the long-vacant, 27,000 square-foot Dominick’s site at 1160 W. Lake-Cook Road in Chase Plaza. The other tenant so far confirmed at the plaza, the village said, is a Club Studio, a luxury-fitness studio brand from the parent company of LA Fitness.
The tenants come the village and developers work to revitalize the once-busy Chase Plaza, at the busy intersection of Lake Cook and Arlington Heights Roads. Last year, the plaza’s well known restaurant and ice cream parlor, The Buffalo, closed for good.
Buffalo Grove is also redeveloping another part of the village into “The Clove,” set to be a residential and entertainment district. According to officials, a Whole Foods grocery store and Dutch Bros. coffee are set to open there.
In September 2025, Chicago Ald. Jim Gardiner announced Sprouts Farmers Market was set to open inside a former CVS in Jefferson Park. If approved, the grocer would open in 2027, the Alderman’s office said at the time.
Sprouts describes itself as “one of the largest and fastest growing specialty retailers of fresh, natural and organic food in the United States,” with dozens of locations across the west, south west and south east. The Midwest, including Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana are listed as “expansion markets” on the Sprouts website.
In a statement sent to NBC Chicago, Sprouts confirmed it was planning to open in Buffalo Grove in 2027.
“Guided by our purpose to help people live and eat better by making healthy, natural and organic products accessible to everyone, Sprouts Farmers Market can confirm that it has signed a lease in Buffalo Grove and looks forward to serving the community beginning in 2027,” the statement said.
