Vagabond, known for its street tacos and margaritas, will close its doors in downtown Milwaukee on July 18 after nearly 12 years.
The restaurant, located at 1122 N. Edison St., just off of North Water Street, recently announced its impending closure in a press release, encouraging patrons to visit before its final day of service. A reason for the closure was not disclosed.
“We are grateful to everyone who has made Vagabond part of their story,” said owner and CEO Matt Schmidt in a statement. “Our team, our guests, our neighbors, and the downtown community have all helped shape what Vagabond became. As we look ahead, we remain excited about future opportunities to grow, evolve, and bring memorable food, drink, and hospitality experiences to more guests throughout the Milwaukee metro area.”
Vagabond is among several bar-restaurant properties owned by local entrepreneur R.C. Schmidt. The portfolio includes The Harp, Trinity and The Brewery (rebranded from Water Street Brewery in 2022), all located within a block’s vicinity, and Water Street Brewery locations in Grafton, Delafield and Oak Creek. All those locations remain open.
Schmidt operated Rudy’s Mexican Restaurant at the Edison Street space prior to opening Vagabond there in 2014.
