Oklahoma SNAP recipients received surprise partial payments, boosting sales at local stores like Homeland, although some households did not qualify for the funds.

Oklahoma SNAP recipients received partial payments late Monday, providing relief amid the government shutdown and boosting sales at local stores like Homeland.

“I got 20 bucks. Yes, I did, and that’s a blessing,” Larry Jones, a SNAP recipient, said.

Homeland reported a significant decrease in sales since the government shutdown, which worsened when SNAP benefits were frozen on November 1. However, after the partial payments were issued, their northeast Oklahoma City location saw double the daily sales.

Welda Jennings, an Oklahoman, said she received $40 of SNAP benefits.

“It helps. I heard some didn’t get anything,” Jennings said.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, some households did not qualify for partial payments, following directives from the USDA.

While DHS has not clarified why certain individuals were ineligible or how payment amounts were determined, recipients like Jones remain grateful for any assistance.

“I get $120, and I got $20,” he said. “With the grace of the good Lord, I’m blessed. Can’t complain as long as I got the good Lord on my side.”

DHS says SNAP users will receive constant updates through the Connect EBT app and website.
