This holiday season will see millions of Georgians engaging in fun, travel and fellowship. Here is what you need to know for the upcoming weeks.
Record-breaking travel for Georgia
According to AAA, more than 3.8 million Georgians are expected to travel during the holiday season, setting a new record for the state.
Throughout this period, beginning December 20 and ending January 1, roughly 3.4 million will travel by automobile, 198,753 will travel by air and 201,017 will travel by alternate transportation methods.
“People are eager to travel this holiday season,” said Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA – The Auto Club Group in a Dec. 10 press release. “That’s leading to record numbers on the roads and in the skies. Our advice is to plan ahead. Book early, allow extra time to reach your destination, and think about travel insurance if you’re flying during winter weather.”
What will the weather be like during the holidays in Atlanta?
It’s going to be a warm Christmas in Atlanta, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.
The low temperature on Christmas Eve will range from 48 to 53 degrees, while the high will range from 73 to 78 degrees. There’s a 90% chance of a record high for Christmas Eve in Atlanta.
Christmas Day in Atlanta will bring low temperatures ranging from 50 to 55 degrees and highs from 73 to 78 degrees. There’s a 76% chance of a record high. The current record is 75 degrees, set in 2015.
