HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WHKY). – The final delivery of eggs under a major settlement involving North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson has arrived in Western North Carolina.
Nearly 150,000 eggs were delivered to MANNA FoodBank in Henderson County, marking the end of a statewide effort that brought nearly three million eggs to North Carolina food banks.
The eggs will help provide food to people in need across 16 Western North Carolina counties, nearly two years after Hurricane Helene devastated communities across the region.
The North Carolina Department of Justice partnered with Feeding the Carolinas to distribute the eggs. Previous deliveries included nearly 300,000 eggs to the Food Bank of the Albemarle, as well as shipments to food banks in Raleigh and Winston-Salem.
The eggs are part of a July settlement involving Attorney General Jackson, 16 other state attorneys general and the U.S. Department of Justice with three major egg producers.
The settlement resolved allegations that the companies worked together to manipulate an industry benchmark and artificially increase egg prices. Nationwide, the agreement provides about 50 million eggs to food banks.
