OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Oklahoma is ranked among the hungriest states in the country when it comes to food insecurity. The fight continues to try and fix that day in and day out.
It’s busy work, as you can imagine, trying to make sure folks in Oklahoma get fed. Things are moving and grooving at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s warehouse during September’s Hunger Action Month.
“This is a time when everyone across the country takes action in a way that’s meaningful to them, to either learn about hunger or advocate for our neighbors who are living with hunger,” Cassie Gilman, with the food bank, said.
On Tuesday’s hunger action day, they got a little help toward their goal.

“Today I am honored to present this check in the amount of $22,500 to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma,” Torrie Rennels with Paycom said.

It’s a donation coming on Tuesday’s Hunger Action Day.
“I think it’s absolutely incredible and very important for us to be able to give back to our community,” Rennels said.
It’s a community that needs that kind of help too. Oklahoma ranks first in the country for food insecurity among children. The state comes in second for being the most food insecure overall.
“It’s not something we’re really proud of, and it’s something we work on every day,” Gilman said.
The Regional Food Bank served the equivalent of 1.6 million meals to students in nearly 450 schools statewide during the 2025-2026 school year. That’s with the help of people giving their time to pack boxes or donate.
“Your $1 provides three meals,” Gilman said.
It’s a fight that continues even outside of Hunger Action Month or Day.
“We would love to have people come out, take a tour, you know, learn a little more,” she said.
