ABERDEEN, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – A longtime family grocery store has announced they are transferring ownership to a Minnesota-based grocery retailer later this month.
According to the current fourth-generation owner of Kessler’s Food & Liquor, Reed Kessler, their stores in Aberdeen and Miller will become part of Coborn’s, Inc. in late April.
Coborn’s is based in St. Cloud and is the parent company of Coborn’s stores, Cash Wise and Hornbacher’s.
Reed Kessler wrote in a post on the business’s Facebook page that the Kessler family has a long relationship with Coborn’s, stating that he even worked at a Coborn’s early in his career.
The stores will continue to operate under the Kessler’s name.
Kessler went on to say that the decision was a difficult one to make, but the changing retail landscape made it challenging for a small business to remain competitive.
For 86 years, Kessler’s Food & Liquor has been owned by the Kessler family.
“We are deeply grateful for your loyalty and support. As we join the Coborn’s Family, we remain committed to preserving the legacy we’ve built and ensuring Kessler’s continues to be a trusted part of our community for decades to come,” wrote Kessler in the post.
