A longtime breakfast and lunch spot in Boise has returned to life with upgrades to the building — serving breakfast and lunch again.

Bobby’s Cafe recently opened at 6767 W. Fairview Ave., after a remodel of the former Original Sunrise Cafe, which closed last year. The locally owned restaurant should be a draw for Idahoans hungry for traditional, family-style dining with a few modern brunch twists.

”Welcome home,” the restaurant proclaims on social media, where it describes itself as a place for “hearty breakfasts, generous portions and reasonable prices.” Menu highlights include “fluffy buttermilk pancakes, homemade biscuits and gravy, fresh Wagyu burgers, irresistible melts, and scratch-made comfort food with genuine hospitality.”

Open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, Bobby’s says that about 90% of its food is made from scratch. “Enjoy a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice,” the restaurant adds, “or have some fun at our bottomless, create-your-own-mimosa juice bar!”

Early feedback is glowing. Bobby’s is rated 5 out of 5 stars on Google, where it has racked up 17 reviews. ”Classic diner, great food and service,” the most recent submission says. “Huckleberry lemonade mimosa was very good, decent pricing and very clean on the inside.”

“Come hungry. Stay awhile. Leave like family,” Bobby’s Cafe says on its website. “Come hungry. Stay awhile. Leave like family,” Bobby’s Cafe says on its website. bobbyscafe.org

“We found our new breakfast restaurant,” another review says. “Great food, nice atmosphere, and exceptional service. Only negative is that it’s a bit pricey, but what isn’t nowadays?”

Prospective customers can judge whether they’ll find the tab “reasonable” or “pricey” by perusing the menu on the restaurant’s website. A three-egg Denver omelet? $14.50. Eggs Benedict? $15.50. A breakfast burrito? $14.50. Steak and eggs? $18.99. A cheeseburger or French dip? $15.99.

Bobby’s Cafe is a local outlier in what has felt like a mini-barrage of breakfast-chain news. Rapidly expanding Florida brand First Watch has opened three Idaho locations in the past year — all in Meridian. Arizona-based Over Easy is planning to expand to Meridian next year, too.
