Rat infestations. Trump voting at over 80%. A retirement paradise for ex-California cops.

Eagle, Idaho, occasionally finds itself highlighted for seemingly disparate qualities.

But as you ponder Boise’s beautiful suburban enigma to the northwest, try not to be stunned by its latest claim to fame — random as it may seem.

Vegan cuisine.

Hard as this may be to swallow for crunchy North Enders in the City of Trees, a longtime Eagle restaurant was just honored by PETA.

The Schnitzel Garten, 1225 E. Winding Creek Drive, has been named to “PETA’s Top Ten list of restaurants serving up the best vegan sausages in the country,” according to a press release.

Coinciding with Oktoberfest, the list obviously is manufactured marketing for PETA. The nonprofit organization “is raising a stein to restaurants that are making the festivities friendlier for animals,” PETA’s website proclaims.

“The Schnitzel Garten is serving up scrumptious, sizzling sausages that give pigs and cows something to celebrate, too, and burst with bold, plant-powered flavor,” PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk said in a prepared statement. “Every vegan sausage on PETA’s Top Ten list is worth raising a glass to, as it’s perfect for Oktoberfest and leaves animals in peace.”

Schnitzel Garten’s Vegan Wurst “features two Beyond Meat bratwursts,” PETA says, “served with sauerkraut and a side of your choice (make sure to ask for the vegan options). Order the Small Sausage Plate made vegan if two brats are just too much.”

This award is too much! The Schnitzel Garten will receive a framed award certificate for the distinction, “along with bragging rights,” PETA says.

Will the German restaurant display its PETA-concocted marketing award proudly on a dedicated vegan wall of glory? With its own high-tech accent lighting for all Eagle residents to cherish?

Probably not, you thinkin’?

Rats, Eagle. Just rats.
