Bloody Mary’s come in all shapes and sizes, but this might be one of the biggest I have ever seen, and now I have to wait to try it. I’m talking 64oz, with enough liquid and food to share with some friends, which would pair well with taking in the sights of fall south of Lake Mille Lacs. It’s not just a beverage; it’s a whole day at the Tulibee Tavern.

“Wahkon has never been afraid to have a little fun”

Last month, I saw that the Tulibee Tavern, formerly the Wahkon Inn, was offering up a GIANT pitcher of Bloody Mary. I wasn’t sure how the ‘event’ was going to go, so I sat back and waited to see if the “Big Bloody Saturday” was going to happen again, and sure enough, it looks like October 24th is going to be a BIG day for folks on the South side of Mille Lacs.

I reached out to the Tulibee Tavern in Wahkon to ask where the idea came from.

“You know what we ought to do…”

Rob Dubbs answered my email, and he offered up a great answer to the inspiration behind the behemoth Bloody:

Like most good bar ideas, Big Bloody Saturday started with a couple of customers, a conversation, and somebody saying, “You know what we ought to do…”

We’d seen some over-the-top Bloody Marys being done elsewhere, and a few of our customers kept talking about how much fun it would be to do something really big at Tulibee. We took the idea and gave it a Wahkon spin.

Because around here, a good Bloody Mary is more than a cocktail — it’s kind of a state of mind. It’s Saturday morning at the lake. It’s friends meeting up and figuring out where the day is going to take them. It’s something you sit around, share, laugh about, and probably take a picture of before anyone touches it.” – Rob Dubbs

Bring a few friends along, as you are going to get plenty. According to Rob when you order the Big Bloody, when it is being offered, you get: “64 ounces of Bloody Mary loaded with lobster, jumbo shrimp, sliders, cheese curds, and more”

How Much Will A Big Bloody Run You?

The last event in September, the Big Bloody ran customers $64.99, but split that up 4 ways and that’s $16.25 per person, and with all the food offered, that’s cheaper than some lunches you can get.

Isn’t Wahkon Far From St. Cloud?

Wahkon is about an hour and 10 minutes from St. Cloud, but if you are out on the Soo Line, or running up at Red Top, it’s closer than you think. Wahkon and Isle are my two favorite stops when running along the Soo.

Rob was excited about what’s happening in Wahkon right now, as road work is wrapping up along Main Street, and various downtown businesses are offering different and new things.

“We’ve got a newly rebuilt Main Street, local businesses trying new things, and events like Fall for Wahkon giving people another reason to come to town, walk around, eat, shop, have a drink, and spend some time here.

Big Bloody Saturday is a little outrageous — but that’s part of the fun. And Wahkon has never been afraid to have a little fun.” – Rob Dubbs

You can find the Tulibee Tavern at 235 Main Street in Wahkon, 56386.

(Pro Tip) If you are spending the weekend on or near Mille Lacs, check The Den out for some coffee and breakfast/lunch.
