A KROGER rival has announced the closure of its only grocery store in a US city.

This is on the heels of the chain announcing other store closures earlier this year.

Now, Safeway has announced plans to close its only grocery store in Arvada, Colorado on November 14.

Safeway has closed 10 locations in Colorado last year alone.

Heather Halpape, director of communications and public affairs for Safeway’s Mountain West Division, recently spoke about the closure with a local outlet.

“With our focus on growth, we continuously evaluate the performance of our stores, and this tough decision was made after careful deliberation,” she said.

“Every effort will be made to transfer associates to one of our other Safeway stores throughout the Denver Metro area.

“While closing this location was not an easy decision, we remain committed to growing our business and reinvesting resources into existing Safeway stores across Colorado.”

Shoppers will still have access to several nearby stores.

This includes Natural Grocers, Sprouts Farmers Market and Target.

Safeway closed another location in Washington back on May 16.

But the store closed in stages, barring customers from the pharmacy starting on April 1.
