SHELTON — The 25 Naugatuck Valley Health District inspections of Shelton food service establishments in September led to serious violations for two locations, one a restaurant and the other a senior independent living facility, according to reports.
Priority item violations are the most serious citations that can be issued during these inspections, according to NVHD health officials, and must be corrected within 72 hours. They typically involve incorrect food temperature, problems with sanitation and chemical storage near food.
The more minor violations — priority foundation and core — must be corrected within 10 days and 90 days, respectively. Neither Sophie’s Kitchen nor Brightview Shelton had any foundation violations. Core violations, deemed the least serious, are not detailed here.
The 25 inspections in September come after Naugatuck Valley Health District inspected 27 Shelton eateries in August and cited six for priority item violations.
During September inspections, Sophie’s Kitchen and Brightview Shelton, a senior independent living, assisted living and memory care facility on Beard Sawmill Road, each had one priority item violation.
Sophie’s Kitchen, 2 Trap Falls Road, at its Sept. 17 inspection, was cited for having moldy cabbage in a refrigerator. The food was discarded, and the violation corrected, the report states.
Sophie’s Kitchen staff confirmed the violation was corrected.
Brightview Shelton, at its Sept. 10 inspection, was found to have a dirty ice machine. The ice machine was cleaned, correcting the violation immediately, the report states.
Brightview Shelton staff did not return a phone call requesting comment.
