KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – With September named Hunger Action Month, Second Harvest Food Bank is calling on East Tennesseans to help build a hunger-free future through this year’s theme: Assembly Required.
Throughout the month, Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee is raising awareness by inviting everyone to get involved by doing the following:
Spread the word: Share pictures from the Henley Street Bridge on Sept. 12, 13 and 29 when it will be lit orange for Hunger Action Month, and wear orange on Sept. 29 for Hunger Action Day.Food drives: Food collection drives are vital in the fight against food insecurity.Volunteer: Volunteers are crucial to the success of the food bank. Their support helps Second Harvest distribute food to communities across East Tennessee.
“This year’s theme, Assembly Required, reminds us that ending hunger takes all of us working together,” said Rachael Ellis, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee. “229,980 of our neighbors are at risk of hunger, including children, seniors, and working families. Hunger Action Month gives us an opportunity to build awareness, mobilize volunteers, and inspire generosity so that together we can create an East Tennessee where no one goes hungry.”
