UPDATE: A “coming soon” sign for In-N-Out Burger at the base of Signal Mountain turned out to be a hoax.
Several viewers reached out to us after seeing this sign near the intersection of Signal Mountain Road and Russell Avenue.
We reached out to the chain’s corporate headquarters, but have not heard back.
The Hamilton County Property Assessor’s Office website says that 860 Signal Mountain Road will indeed be a commercial property, but it will not become an In-N-Out.
Harry’s Wine & Spirits, currently located at 705 Signal Mountain Road, confirmed with us that they plan to move to the now fenced-off location next to Chattanooga Quick Lube.
It’s currently unclear who placed the sign, but it has since been removed.
The land was sold to the Hixson Pike Corporation on July 18, 2025.
It comes months after In-N-Out canceled plans to bring two to three restaurants to the Chattanooga area.
PREVIOUS STORY: In a statement responding to follow-up questions from Local 3, a spokesperson for In-N-Out clarified that they hope to expand into the Chattanooga community at some point in the future, but they are not actively working on any specific sites in the city right now.
The clarification comes after questions about potential growth of the famous West Coast fast-food chain in the Tennessee Valley.
PREVIOUS STORY: In-N-Out has seemingly decided to cancel their plans to open a restaurant in Chattanooga in the near future.
Just over a year ago, we learned they were rolling out locations across Tennessee, including the eventual construction of “two to three stores” in Chattanooga.
We reached out to their corporate headquarters after hearing about rumors about a potential location being developed close to the Hamilton Place Mall.
Here’s what Vice President of Store Development Mike Abbate wrote back:
“Thank you for checking in with us. Unfortunately, the information referenced about an In-N-Out Burger opening in Chattanooga isn’t accurate. Although we do not currently have any plans to open a restaurant there, we know it’s a wonderful city. Thanks again for contacting us.”
We’ve reached back out asking what changed, and if we can expect a second chance in the future.
Needless to say, it’s a heartbreaker for some burger lovers on Valentine’s Day.
PREVIOUS STORY: National burger chain In-N-Out has released the expected opening dates for their first restaurants in the state of Tennessee.
The greater Nashville area is expected to eventually have 10-to 15 stores. Chattanooga will have 2 to 3 stores.
The Lebanon location, at 915 South Hartmann Drive, Lebanon, TN, and the Antioch location at 4130 William Turner Parkway, Antioch, TN, are expected to open Wednesday, December 10, according to Nashville NBC affiliate WSMV.
That will be followed by the Murfreesboro location at 2508 Medical Center Parkway, Murfreesboro, TN, on Friday, December 12.
All three restaurants will have a drive-thru lane, indoor seating for 74 guests and a covered patio with outdoor seating that can accommodate up to 30 guests.
There’s no word yet on the Chattanooga locations.
PREVIOUS STORY: In-N-Out is opening its first locations in Tennessee, beginning with Nashville in 2026 and then expanding to Chattanooga and Knoxville.
According to NBC affiliate WMC Memphis, the California burger chain will spread across the state:
Nashville: 10 to 15 stores
Chattanooga: 2 to 3 stores
Knoxville: 3 to 5 stores
Clarksville: one store
Cookeville: one store
Memphis: 4 to 5 stores
Tri-Cities: 2 to 3 stores
Morristown: one store
Jackson: one store
WMC says that In-N-Out broke ground on its Tennessee office in Franklin in September 2024. The office, located off Interstate 65, adjacent to Berry Farms, is set to be completed in 2026. The building will be a 100,000-square-foot office that will house various corporate associates.
“This is a historic day for In-N-Out Burger. Breaking ground on this beautiful property is the first step in putting down roots in the state of Tennessee,” Lynsi Snyder-Ellingson, In-N-Out Burger’s owner and president said. “We were drawn to The Volunteer State because of its commitment to quality, service and family, and cannot wait to begin serving Customers and communities by 2026.”
