The Food Bank of Delaware held its first ever Neighbors Helping Neighbors appreciation event on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the organization’s facility in Milford.
Jill Fredel, a former employee of the Delaware Division of Health and Social Services, was recognized for her more than 25 years of volunteer service to the Food Bank.
“We are an incredible state of neighbors,” said Fredel. “People ask me all the time why I volunteer so much and the answer is simple; I love helping our neighbors. My parents taught me that in a country like America, nobody should go hungry.”
Also honored was the Harry K Foundation, founded by Harry Keswani.
“Feeding our children is one of the most basic ways we can care for our kids,” said Keswani. “Food is not just nourishment for the body, it provides dignity, hope and confidence for our children. No child should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.”
According to officials, the Harry K Foundation has donated more than two and a half million dollars to Food Bank programs over the past decade.
