According to health officials, El Amigo can still remain open.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – El Amigo Mexican Restaurant in Milledgeville remains open after receiving two unsatisfactory health inspection scores in July, with inspectors documenting violations involving food temperatures, flies, food handling and a mold-like substance inside an ice machine.
The restaurant, located at 2465 N. Columbia St., received a 58/U during a routine inspection on July 21 and a 60/U during a follow-up inspection on July 29, according to inspection reports from the North Central Health District.
The restaurant previously received a 96 during a routine inspection on Dec. 19, 2025.
That 96 was the score displayed inside the restaurant when 41NBC visited.
The posted score was not the restaurant’s most recent inspection score.
While at the restaurant we asked about the most recent health inspection, the owner was not present.
Two employees came from the kitchen to speak with the crew.
When asked whether the restaurant was safe for customers to eat at given the violations documented in the inspection reports, one employee said the restaurant was safe and called the concerns “absurd.”
The employee also said the restaurant was “working hard to fix everything that happened.”
When asked why the most recent health inspection score was not displayed inside the restaurant, one employee walked away.
According to the North Central Health District, El Amigo is allowed to continue operating at this time.
The two unsatisfactory scores came from two different types of inspections, one routine inspection and one follow-up inspection.
Felicia Pearson-Powell, district environmental health director for the North Central Health District, said the restaurant will receive another follow-up inspection.
“The facility will be having another follow up inspection to make sure they are in compliance and to make sure we’ve answered all questions that they may have,” Pearson-Powell said.
Health officials say the restaurant would face stronger enforcement if it receives two consecutive unsatisfactory scores during routine inspections.
