Headed home from San Antonio and stopped in Kyle for opening night of the new Z’Tejas on I-35 at Kyle Crossing. They’re open daily at 4pm to start and have the same menu as the Avery Ranch location and probably the same stuff anyone would remember from the 6th Street one that closed this year.

Got a Hard Day Margarita ($13), Chicken Tortilla Soup ($10) and Grilled Ruby Trout ($20) so $55 out the door with T&T.

My feedback to the staff was that for a Southwest/Tex-Mex menu I just don’t get much pepper/spice/heat from anything I order. This goes back to dishes at the previous locations, I’ve been to all of them. I do enjoy their mushroom enchiladas.

It felt like there are two employees for every customer today so you should expect great service if you go.

Most interesting bottle I saw at the bar is a Clase Azul Mezcal. It’s $84 a pour, out of my price range, but cool bottle.

Receipt says they have 1/2 price Tequila and Margaritas on Tuesdays, 1/2 wine on Wednesdays, and Reverse Happy Hour M-F.

Forgot to snap a pic of the Fall seasonal menu, they got pumpkin enchiladas if that’s your thing. 🎃🤔

I’ve had pesto that was spicier than anything at Z’Tejas.

This looks very “downmarket” compared to their former Austin locations. Of course, they were always kind of a “downmarket food in an upmarket atmosphere” kind of place.

Hope they’re successful though; it’s a great legacy no matter.

  4. That awful mural from the W 6th location lives on!
