Found a bolt at the bottom of a box of chicken wings.
And all my Sysco rep had to say about it was “yikes”.

Someone’s machinery is about to implode in the middle of sorting chicken parts.
Maybe I’m jaded, or a bad cook, but is this something to really worry about? Chicken is already so filthy, it couldn’t have made it any worse? Yeah, I know, I’ll get down voted, and shit for this (btw, chicken freaks me out, I’m freakish about cleaning/sanitizing, multiple times when working with it, every surface, hands, remove my jacket, change aprons afterwards, then sanitize AGAIN, even surfaces I may not have touched). I see the bolt as a physical problem, but it’s too large to leave in a dish — it was discovered, afterall — bite into, swallow.
I would look for metal shavings, because there is the possibility that the machinery it came from was having other difficulties? Is this a reason to toss the case?
Someone tell me how I’m wrong. Did you have to toss the entire case?

pretty common screw type.
no way to know if it came off a table, some shelving, part of the truck… could be from anywhere. maybe the driver had a screw loose…

I found a huge chunk of glass at the bottom of a bottle of fish sauce from Birite once. Sales rep pretty much had the same reaction.

A lot of large scale food processing facilities run their finished goods through a metal detector for exactly this reason. Also because those chickens might be packing heat.

Legally speaking, you should contact the USDA. Product adulteration is a serious problem that goes unreported until people die, and even then it’s a brief mention at best.
Save the label showing the manufacturing facility and pack date. Or any information for that matter.
