Had breakfast at the Phoebe’s Diner on 11th Street this morning.

I asked about the Gracy Farms location that’s been sitting in restaurant construction limbo for so long. There’s no progress report other than they’re waiting on the city’s permitting department for approval. Was told they’re ready to go when it happens but they’ve been waiting over a year. Not sure what the delay is but I often hear this from people trying to open restaurants. They’ve hired someone to train staff and open the new location who’s been at the downtown diner for 1.5 years now.

As for the food, I ordered migas and they don’t use any tortilla strips in their recipe. The ingredients are good, lots of green chilies to go with the eggs and cheese. But I miss the crispy tortilla texture and they don’t have chips or corn tortillas so I was left wanting. Potatoes are great and two little masa balls were a nice touch. Guessing I just ordered the wrong thing cause I hear lots of people say they love the place.

That sounds about right. What a mess.

WTH am I looking at? Migas?! I thought it was Middle Eastern food. I guess the “chef” thinks he is God’s Gift to Mexican food.

This is migas? Order any of their Bennies with hashbrown casserole next time. Love phoebe’s but good to know their migas aren’t traditional hehe.

Migas without tortilla strips is like mac and cheese without pasta.

You ate a scrambled Denver omelet, not migas.

EDIT: I got curious, went to the website, and read the description:

    >Hatch chile hollandaise, scrambled eggs, onion, tomato, Hatch chiles, crispy masa cake, cotija cheese, cilantro served with red potatoes

The person who made this seems only to have encountered migas third-hand and tried to replicate them based on a vague description by someone who had seen them from a distance but never actually tried them.

Something like the guy from medieval times who drew this “elephant”:

  5. The ENTIRE point of migas is the pieces of toritilla. Like really, the ENTIRE point.

Aw man I know y’all are upset about the migas but this dish is actually really good! They definitely need to call it something else though cause I agree, it’s not migas.

I know for a fact it’s the not city’s fault.

MIGAS LITERALLY MEANS CRUMBS…..how do they not include the namesake of the dish

  9. Best thing about Phoebe’s is the BadAssBacon & HashCasserole
