Hello everyone, I’ve been scouring for a molcajete for a while. Preferably one that isn’t sold at a major retailer like Williams-Sonoma or Sur La Table, but I’d consider branded ones from those companies that isn’t white-labelled. I feel like my search is missing some very obvious markets and avenues that might have these in stock, but my primary criteria is:
1. Made in Mexico
2. Volcanic Rock
3. Can hold at least 24oz worth of stuff
The only options that are popping up right now are from online artisan brands that I feel like are probably charging a premium for what I can find directly. They are:
This behemoth of a molcajete from Masienda (which AFAIK is actually based in LA, just has no storefront):

This minmalist design from a Duplo x Made-In Collab:

Can you suggest anywhere else to look?

Go to El Mercadito in East LA or the Alameda Swap Meet.
Most Mexican markets have them. I don’t know if they will be quite as large as you want, but I got mine at either Olvera Street or Northgate market. They should run under $30 or so for a standard sized one.
You should call to verify before you drive over, but I believe I’ve seen them at El Cameguey Meat Market.

While you’re there you should get some Brazilian food from the tiny restaurant that’s inside the store.

Have you tried looking at OfferUp? Not sure if anyone’s listed something with your criteria but worth looking quick if you’d entertain buying used.
Alarcon Imports 2519 East 4th St, Los Angeles, CA 90033 has a whole wall of them, great prices, too.
I went for a swim at roosevelt pool a couple years ago, saw these molcajetes for sale and was like “I’m going to lock this in my brain, just in case.” And here we are.
If you go to Mexico via airplane. Can’t do carry on large stones. Learned the hard way.

I’ve travelled by [this](https://maps.app.goo.gl/1JspXipak2j3MPdj6?g_st=ic) numerous times on Pico just west of Gateway Blvd. It might not be set up for a showroom retail sales, but if you contact them they may be able to help you out.
