Recently, I found a great deal on a AA pressure canner. It’s in such good condition that I didn’t even realize it’s from the 90s until I brought it home. I decided to test it out, and I encountered an issue while heating up before the gauge could even register any pressure the overpressure plug started leaking steam. I turned it off, waited for it to cool down, removed the plug, cleaned it and the area where it goes, and tried again. Unfortunately, this didn’t resolve the problem.

I let it cool down once more, took out the plug, and inspected it. Surprisingly, it’s not hard like other overpressure plugs I’ve had to replace. There are no visible cracks or rips in the rubber, and the rubber is still quite pliable and soft like new. I’m puzzled as to what might be causing this issue. I’ve ordered a new plug online in the hopes that it will fix the problem, but I don’t understand why the current one is leaking.
